FAQ - What does "ERR: V3" mean

What does "ERR: V3" mean on my watchface?

ERR: V3 indicates that you're using a regular Open Weather Map API key instead of a "One Call API" key.

When you see "ERR: V3" displayed on your watchface, it means the API key you provided is a standard OWM key, but certain weather datapoints require the One Call API 3.0 subscription.

Understanding OWM API Keys

❌ Regular API Key

The standard free API key from Open Weather Map. This key has limited access and won't work for all weather datapoints.

✅ One Call API 3.0 Key

A subscription-based API that provides access to comprehensive weather data. Some weather datapoints in the watchface specifically require this API version.

How to Fix This

  1. Subscribe to One Call API 3.0

Log into your Open Weather Map account and subscribe to the "One Call API 3.0" service. OWM offers a free tier with 1,000 calls per day.

  2. Generate a new API key

After subscribing, create a new API key that includes access to the One Call API 3.0.

  3. Update your watchface settings

Enter the new One Call API key in your watchface settings.

  4. Wait for activation

New API keys can take 2-4 hours to become fully activated by OWM.

Important: Not all weather datapoints require the One Call API. Basic weather information will still work with a regular API key, but advanced datapoints (like hourly forecasts, precipitation probabilities, etc.) need the One Call API subscription.
